Home and Garden Assist

How it works

Does your lawn need mowing? Are there old leaves in the garden which need to be swept? Or paths that need clearing? Our Home & Garden Assist could be the scheme to help you. If you have difficulty and need help with gardening or other maintenance jobs, we may be able to help. We are a band of Volunteer DIYers and gardeners who visit homes in Ilkley & District to tidy gardens, change light bulbs and much more.

What sort of jobs can we do?

• General handyman jobs around the home
• Change lightbulbs
• Mend taps and overflows
• Tidy gardens – repotting plants, trimming lawns etc.
• Repair fences

Is there a charge for the service?

Please be aware that there may sometimes be a charge, for example for materials used, otherwise a donation will be appreciated. Please discuss this before work commences.

*Please note:  we will endeavour to carry out most jobs using our own in-house volunteers, but occasionally we may have to use personnel from other community groups or direct you to other organisations better equipped to help you.

Who Can Benefit

We assist people who live in the locality of Ilkley, Addingham, and Burley in Wharfedale.   The service is aimed at older or disabled people who experience trouble with household tasks such as gardening and small home maintenance jobs.

What you can do to help us.

Our work schedule is always busy, so we are looking for new volunteers. If you’re interested in joining us as a volunteer either drop us an email from our contact page or contact us by phone on 01943 603348. You will be invited to meet up for an informal chat so you can hear how it all works and see if you would like to be involved.  We recruit from the local community and before joining us volunteers are interviewed, have references taken up and undergo training.  Everyone is required to have a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check.
