The Friday Friendship Group were thoroughly entertained by Bluebell class from Sacred Heart Primary school on Friday 24th April. After initially appearing a little shy their confidence soon blossomed as they sang several songs for us including, ‘I’m a little teapot’ and ‘You are my sunshine’.
They went on to chat with everyone in the room, give out drawings they had done of themselves and eat their way through all the biscuits! Judging by the smiles both children and clients had a lovely afternoon creating some very happy memories.
TV Licence and Pension Credit
As you may be aware, free TV Licences, funded by the Government, for all over 75s will come to an end in August 2020.
From 1 August 2020, there will be a new scheme. Under the new scheme, anyone aged 75 or over receiving Pension Credit, will be eligible to apply for a free TV Licence, paid for by the BBC. You need to be receiving Pension Credit in your name, or in your partner’s name if you are a couple.
If you are not receiving Pension Credit in your name – or in your partner’s name if you are a couple living at the same address – you will need to pay for your next TV Licence. If this applies to you the Government will contact you over the next few weeks with all the different options available on how to pay.
It may be worth checking whether you are currently eligible for Pension Credit (and so a free licence), even if you haven’t been
eligible in previous years. Owning your own home and/or having savings does not necessarily make you ineligible.
Face Masks
Anyone going to their GP practice for an appointment will now need to wear a face covering in Bradford District & Craven.
Masks will also be required on all public transport which is now accessible to all members of the public. From 24th July, all those entering shops and supermarkets must wear a face covering e.g. a face mask.
As an occasional glasses wearer, I have been looking at ways of stopping my glasses steaming…
Tighten the fit Often warm breath is being puffed out of the top of your face mask because it’s too loose. If you can adjust the straps so the face mask sits flush against you face, do that – or there are plenty of tricks for ensuring a tight fit
Tape it down Another twist on this approach is using tape, which is an option taken by lots of ER doctors. Put on your mask then tape it down across the bridge of your nose and across your cheeks. Perhaps test the tape on another part of your body, first, so you don’t end up yowling in pain as you rip of your top layer of skin once you return inside.
Lower your mask Try moving your face mask a touch lower, so there’s more space between the edge of your mask and your glasses. This means warm breath has a chance to disperse before it hits your lenses. Just make sure that your mask still covers your nose and mouth, otherwise it’s pointless
Wipe the lenses of your glasses with washing-up-liquid, apparently this stops them steaming up.
