Christmas Parcels

How it works

During December, in the run up to Christmas, Good Neighbours volunteers distribute parcels to those who may be alone over the holiday period.

Each year a veritable army of volunteers, drawn from the Rotary Clubs of Ilkley and Ilkley Wharfedale, ably assisted by Good Neighbours and Community Action volunteers assemble in the Masonic Hall to pack and wrap the festive gifts in record time. Afterwards students from Ilkley Grammar School join the distribution teams to visit and chat with the recipients and hand over their Christmas parcel.

What you can do to help?

We are always pleased to welcome new volunteers for this project particularly those who are willing to spend a morning delivering parcels to our residents, usually accompanied by two students from Ilkley Grammar School. The event usually takes place one week before Christmas.  All volunteers are required to have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. If you are interested in helping with this scheme, please contact us by the end of September as it can take some time for a DBS check to be approved.

Who Can Benefit?

If you or someone you know will be alone over Christmas holiday period and would welcome a visit, please contact us.

The Christmas parcels project is supported, financially, by many organisations including Ilkley Round Table, Rotary Club and donations from individuals, without whose help the project could not take place.
