Festive cheer, laughter, and new friendships filled the Audley Clevedon Restaurant this December as eighty five older residents and volunteers came together for Ilkley & District Good Neighbours’ annual Christmas lunches.
Held over three separate afternoons, the lunches offered far more than a delicious meal — they created space for connection, companionship, and moments of real warmth. For many, it was a chance to meet new friends; for others, an unexpected reunion, including two guests who discovered they had attended the same schools in Halifax decades ago.
New member Jo Goddard, who recently moved to Ilkley, described the lunches as a wonderful introduction to the community, saying the charity has helped her feel welcomed, connected, and truly part of Ilkley.
The annual lunches reflect the heart of the charity’s work: bringing people together, reducing loneliness, and strengthening community bonds.
The events were made possible thanks to the generous support of the Ilkley Round Table, our dedicated volunteers, and Ilkley Community Transport. With more festive activities ahead — including a trip to the Upstagers Pantomime in January — the Christmas lunches are just one example of how Ilkley & District Good Neighbours continues to bring joy and connection to older residents all year round.
