Latest News Sept/October

Hello everyone
I hope you are all keeping well in these somewhat uncertain times.  My two children are back at school and enjoying it (as am I).  I have seen a few of our Moving On members out and about round town and had a little chat, which has been lovely.
I appreciate we have all changed somewhat over the past few months and can be a bit hard to recognise, particularly with masks on, so I thought it might be handy if I sent you a photo of me (see attached photos – both my indoor and outdoor options!) so if you see me out and about, please do come and say hello.
New Rules for Bradford and Ilkley
There are some new rules on what we can and can’t do coming into force from Tuesday September 22nd.  These have literally come in just as I was about to press “send” on this email (and the situation may very well have changed by the time you read
this!).   In summary, all parts of Bradford (including Ilkley, Addingham and Burley), Kirklees, Calderdale, will now be banned from socialising with other people outside of their own households or support bubble in private homes and gardens, from September 22nd.  Here is a link to the Ilkley Gazette article regarding this
Coronavirus vs Cold Symptoms

We probably all know now that the main symptoms of Covid-19 are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
Further information is on the NHS website
It may be because my children are back at school and catching the usual array of school bugs but I have been spending some time recently looking into the differences between cold and Covid-19 symptoms. A useful table has been shared around and I have attached it below in case it is helpful for you.  It is from this BBC article, which also has some useful information
If you have any of the main symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), please try and get a test as soon as possible.  You will also have to self-isolate (this means you must not leave your home).  Some online information is here
You can also call 119 (the NHS test and trace service) although it seems that these services are very busy at the moment.
If you feel you need medical help, whether for Covid-19 reasons or something else, please do contact your GP (or 999 if it is an emergency).  It is so important that we all continue to look after our health.
Telephone Theatre Audio Play ‘You Don’t Know Me But…

We have received the following information from the Ilkley Literature Festival. They have an upcoming event called  ‘You Don’t Know Me But…’ .  This is a free one-woman audio play which is performed live over the telephone, giving audience members a unique and moving theatre experience in their own homes at a time when live face-to-face theatre performance is not possible.

Inspired by real memories and interviews about care, this unique play celebrates the dedication and spirit of care workers and residents across the UK. This immersive experience may be especially of interest to people who have been unable to attend live events or have trouble accessing digital events.

The play runs from Tuesday 13 – Saturday 17 October with six performances per day. Tickets are free and can be booked by calling the Ilkley Literature Festival box office on 01943 816714. If you’d like more information about the event please see their website – https://www.ilkleyliteraturefestival.org.uk/festival/telephone-theatre-you-dont-know-me-but.

Bradford Libraries Book

This is a bit of a last minute one, I’m afraid, as it has a deadline of Monday but it may be of interest to our budding artists and poets.  Bradford libraries are inviting the people of Ilkley of all ages to submit their poetry or artwork for inclusion in one of two books.  They say:
“At Bradford Libraries we believe poetry and creativity can be a great way of engaging our minds to explore what, how and why we feel a certain way.  Now that we are relaxing Lockdown and we are starting to adapt to change in our daily lives, we wanted to reflect on our experiences of living through these unusual times.
“We want to think about things to celebrate; things that have made us sad or things that we have learnt, felt or seen for the first time.
We will produce two books – one book will feature poems and artwork by children & young people under 18 and one book will feature artwork and poems by adults (over 18).
“For both there will an overall art winner which will feature on the cover of the book.”
The poems and artwork will be selected by a panel of judges.  The closing date is Monday 21st September. Results will be announced on National Poetry Day 1st October  For an entry form email: Library.Events@bradford.gov.uk or pick up one up from your nearest open library.
Right, I think that is about it for now. Take care of yourselves everyone and hopefully see you around.

Kind regards
Hannah
