September Newsletter

Hello everyone

I hope you are all doing well.  I have been enjoying the summer holidays with the kids (which isn’t too dissimilar to the months of lockdown preceding it except there is no schoolwork to force on them!).  That said, we have been having a lovely time.  Our veg garden has been doing well, although a few beans and sunflowers blew down in some of the high winds a while back.  The marrow is still around though – not super massive but it has gone a lovely yellow/green colour!

Some local news to follow…

Local Restrictions Lifted in Ilkley

Great news that, as from this Wednesday, September 2nd,Ilkley is no longer under additional local restrictions.   Instead, the general national restrictions will apply.  These are summarised  here

The key points are that from September 2nd you are able to meet indoors in groups of up to two households (anyone in your support bubble counts as one household). This includes inviting people from one household into your home or visiting the home of someone else with members of your own household. You should continue to maintain social distancing with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble when doing so. If you are in a support bubble you can continue to see each other without needing to maintain social distancing.

The more people you have interactions with, the more chance the virus has to spread. Therefore, try to limit the number of people you see – especially over short periods of time. The risk of transmission is also higher indoors, so you should take extra care to stay as safe as possible.

TV Licensing

You may have received a letter from TV Licensing asking you to pay for your TV licence.

As I mentioned in a previous email, free TV Licences (funded by the Government) for all over 75s will end in August 2020.  From 1 August 2020, there will be a new scheme in place.

Under the new scheme, anyone aged 75 or over receiving Pension Credit, will be eligible to apply for a free TV Licence paid for by the BBC. You need to be receiving Pension Credit in your name, or in your partner’s name if you are a couple. If you are not receiving Pension Credit in your name – or in your partner’s name if you are a couple living at the same address – you will need to pay for your next TV Licence.

It may be worth checking whether you are currently eligible for Pension Credit (and so a free licence), even if you haven’t been eligible in previous years.  Owning your own home and/or having savings does not necessarily make you ineligible.  I have attached a link to Age UK which sets out some useful information about Pension Credit and TV Licences, please click for more information.

If you are over 75 and if you not eligible for a free TV licence anymore you will need to pay for a TV licence.  TV Licencing are sending letters out to all over 75’s.  I understand you can only pay using:

  • POST – PO Box 578 Darlington DL98 1AN
  • The INTERNET
  • PHONE – 0300 790 6151

Bogus Cold Caller in Ilkley

Police in Ilkley are urging residents to be vigilant following reports of bogus cold callers.

A report has been made of a man calling a resident in Ilkley posing as an Incommunities worker saying they will be coming over to the property to check the double glazing.  A woman arrived at a property on West Parade and asked to come inside the property, entry to the property was refused and the homeowner called to check if they did work for Incommunities.

The homeowner was told they had not sent anyone to her address and not to let the person in.  She then called the police. The female suspect is described as white female, 5ft8”, medium build, late 20s, with fair hair and was wearing a black coat.

Police in Ilkley are urging residents to remain vigilant if any cold callers approach their homes or contact them via telephone on 101 or if it is an emergency call 999. Do not to handover any money or personal details to anyone they are not expecting.
